Health Surveillance for Construction & Industrial Employers

Viking Medical Services provides doctor-led, HSE-aligned surveillance for employers across Stirling, Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Central Belt.

We help you meet your legal duties, identify early signs of work-related ill health, and keep your workforce safe and work-ready.

What is health surveillance?

Health surveillance is used when workers are exposed to certain workplace hazards. It helps detect early signs of work-related ill health and supports employers to meet their legal responsibilities.

You may need health surveillance where risk assessments identify exposure to hazards such as:

  • Noise

  • Hand–arm vibration

  • Dusts and fumes (including respiratory irritants and sensitizers)

  • Skin irritants / wet work / chemicals

  • Asbestos, lead or ionising radiation (where applicable)

We work with you to ensure surveillance is proportionate, appropriate and defensible — aligned with the relevant regulations and your actual workplace risks.

Health surveillance services

We provide the following surveillance services for employers:

Audiometry (Noise exposure)

Baseline and periodic hearing assessments with clear outcomes and escalation where required.

Spirometry (Respiratory surveillance)

Respiratory assessments for workers exposed to dusts, fumes or respiratory sensitizers.

HAVS Tier 1-4 assessments (Vibration exposure)
Clinical screening and advice for employees using vibrating tools, with appropriate follow-up pathways.

Skin surveillance
Assessment and guidance for exposure to skin irritants, chemicals and “wet work”.

Night worker assessments
Where required under the Working Time Regulations, with clear fitness advice.

If you’re unsure what surveillance you need, we can help interpret your risk assessments and advise what is appropriate.

How it works

  1. Initial discussion – we clarify your workplace exposures, workforce size, locations and timescales.

  2. Programme set-up – we confirm what surveillance is required and the schedule (baseline / periodic).

  3. Delivery – clinic appointments in Stirling or on-site delivery for groups across Central Scotland.

  4. Clear outcomes – results provided with appropriate fitness advice and escalation where needed.

  5. Ongoing support – we can run annual cycles and provide continuity year-to-year.

Our focus is on efficient scheduling, clear communication and consistent clinical standards.
